Genus: Aromaticum

Species: Aromaticum laqueus

Aromaticum laqueus, or aromatic pitfall is a type of carnivorous plant that gains its nutrients from digesting various insects. The plant has specially evolved its flowers into a deep pit, used to trap the insects. The plant attracts its prey by releasing aromatic scents from inside the flower. Once the insect is inside the pit, it is trapped by a sticky substance secreated by the plant. Then, the pit begins to fill with digestive enzimes and the plant will begin to digest and absorb the nutrients from the insect. Aromatic pitfalls are made up of nucleaus consisting cells, which put them in the eukarya domain. They fall within the plantae kingdom because they contain chlorofyl which allows it to convert nutrients into food through photosynthesis. They are tracheobiontas because they contain xylem and phloems which help them distribute food and nutrients throughout the plant. They are magnoliopsida because they develop a primary root system, and net-veined leaves, which make them dicots. They also fall within the lamiales family because they exist in clusters of flowers, and produce a strong aromatic scent. They are lamiacae because they have simple leave structures, although netted, however are places usually opposite from each other on thick, square-ish stems. They are given the genus Aromaticum because they are distinguishable through their strong aroma, followed by laqueus which means pitfall, which is also another distinguishable characteristic of the plant.
